Croeso / Welcome

A new year is upon us, and I'm proud to invite you to a new CCW event for 2012! Following an evaluation of last year's ride we've decided on the way forward for Cycle Challenge Wales. It was decided that the following key points would form the foundations from which CCW 2012 would be built:

1. To keep the fun and team spirit of the past two years alive
2. To make it possible for larger numbers to participate
3. To allow cyclists the opportunity to raise money for their chosen charities

With this in mind, the idea for the CCW 'Bike & Hike' was put forward by Wayne Beynon and Rhodri Gomer. It will incorporate a climb up the Welsh three peaks (Snowdon, Cadair Idris & Pen-y-fan), with a cycle between each mountain. The 'race' will be carried out over the weekend of June the 16th/17th, and you may enter a team of up to four cyclists. Starting at 7am from Rhyd-ddu Car Park, at the foot of Snowdon, the route will be yours to decide upon, and you will need your own support vehicle. Entry for each team will be £200, which will cover the minimal admin costs, with the remainder being split 50/50 between Wales Air Ambulance & Pedal Power, Cardiff.

What you will need:

The weekend off!
A team of up to four cyclists
Amap
Someone who'll drive you to Caernarfon on Friday night or VERY early on Saturday morning, and follow you along the route to offer assistance
A tent for the Saturday night
Your own personal charity/charities (or not if you don't like raising money for those in need...)
A good set of lungs!

Your incentive for going as fast as possible will be an as yet undisclosed sum of money (for 1st 2nd & 3rd) donated to your chosen charity (and the rather long winded title of 'CCW 2012 Bike & Hike Champions'). In true CCW fashion, Benny Gooch will also be holding a court session on the Saturday night, so bring your A game (unless you actually want to win the race...)

Cheating will not be tolerated of course! Each rider will need to provide evidence of the distance cycled on their odometers, and a photo of their team at the peak of all three mountains.
